13th August 2025 – Seoul, South Korea
OpenAI has officially launched the OpenAI Creative Lab, a global artist program aimed at empowering visual storytellers, designers, and creators to explore new forms of creativity using AI.
The first edition of this program is taking place in Seoul, bringing together 21 selected artists for a month-long creative residency. These artists will use OpenAI’s tools like DALL·E and ChatGPT to build new art projects, experiment with AI-assisted storytelling, and collaborate with fellow creators.
What is OpenAI Creative Lab?
OpenAI Creative Lab is a new initiative designed to:
- Democratize access to advanced creative tools
- Support artists at every stage of their journey
- Create safe spaces for experimentation, learning, and sharing ideas
OpenAI says the program is built on a simple idea: when artists lead and tools follow, new forms emerge.
Over the coming weeks, OpenAI will introduce each of its inaugural Fellows and share updates from the Seoul lab through its social media channels.
Why It Matters
This is the first time OpenAI has launched a structured program focused exclusively on artists. It signals a shift from just building AI tools to actively enabling creativity through global community programs.
More Creative Labs are expected to be launched in different cities around the world in the coming months.
