Google is all geared up to launch two new features for Google’s Messages app. This new feature has been introduced in order to offer a new method to read messages. users receive a variety of messages from friends and family as well as companies providing promotions, receipts, order confirmations, and other information, the company is offering a new method to read communications.
In an attempt to prevent single-use codes from cluttering up the user’s phone and inbox, Google India has stated that a recent upgrade to the messaging app would now erase One Time Passwords on its own once they have been received.
“Last year, we expanded spam protection to help reduce the volume of unwanted messages by automatically moving suspected spam messages into a spam folder. To continue to keep your inbox free of clutter, we’re also providing the option to automatically delete your one-time passwords (OTPs) 24 hours after they’re received, so you don’t have to spend time deleting them manually,” read Google’s blog post.
“That means, bank transactions and bills will be filtered into the transactions tab, while conversations with saved numbers can be easily located in the personal tab. All of this happens safely on your device so your conversations stay in the app and you can access your categorized messages offline,” the company said in a blog post.
To enable it, just press the “Continue” button when the suggestion prompt appears to confirm your choice. Google has also stated that it will begin rolling them out in English in the coming weeks. Android phones running Android 8 and subsequent versions will be able to take advantage of the new capabilities.
SMS, texts, personal transactions, OTPs, offers, ads, and personal communications will all be auto-categorized by the new version. Users will be prompted to activate the choices to receive auto-categorised messages after the update is pushed out. When this question appears, simply hit “Continue” to confirm your choices and enable the function.
Optional features such as auto-OTP deletion and SMS Categories can be controlled in settings. Make sure you’re running the most recent version of the Google Messages app if you want to try them out.
Well, a question on this update has surfaced consistently, why this update is being rolled out for Indian users only?
According to Google, many Indian users have received messages from friends, family, and companies offering discounts, order confirmations, and receipts, in abundance among other things. With so many texts building up in your inbox, it might be tough to distinguish between those that require immediate attention and those that don’t.
